During a virtual ceremony from Abuja, President Muhammadu Buhari has given approval for the rehabilitation of the dilapidated Ogoni axis of East-West Road in Rivers State, alongside the ground-breaking of three projects: the Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration, Ogoni Specialist Hospital, and Ogoni Power Project, located in the Wiiyaakara community, Khana Local Government Area of the state.
The president assured the Ogoni people of his commitment to fulfilling promises made before the 2015 elections, stating that his administration had established the Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project to oversee the clean-up of crude oil-impacted sites in Ogoni land. In addition to the establishment of HYPREP, President Buhari highlighted the construction of the Bonny-Bodo road, which will link the East-West Road when completed, and boost the socio-economic development of Ogoni land.
He expressed hope that the incoming administration led by Bola Tinubu will continue the progress made so far.
