Tinubu Announces Members of Presidential Inauguration Planning Committee

A group of distinguished individuals has been appointed to organize a week-long presidential inauguration event for the incoming President and Vice President.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Kashim Shettima are set to take on the roles of President and Vice-President, respectively.

In a letter to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Tinubu named Abubakar Kyari, the National Deputy Chairman (North) of the APC, as the Coordinator and Director of Finance and Budget of the Committee.

Other members of the committee include Stella Okotete as the head of Secretariat, Planning and Monitoring, Makinde Araoye as the Director of venue, parades and swearing-in, Bayo Onanuga as Head of Media and Publicity, and Dr Betta Edu as the coordinator of the medical team.

The committee also includes Umaru Musa Yar’Adua’s younger brother, Col. Abdulazeez Yar’Adua, as the head of the Security and Ceremonial parade. Zainab Buba Marwa, the daughter of Buba Marwa, will coordinate the pre-inauguration dinner and gala night for the committee.

The absence of names from the southeast has sparked debate, with some attributing it to the influence of Bayo Onanuga, who has been critical of the Igbo people in Lagos. Tinubu is set to be inaugurated as president of Nigeria on May 29, 2023, Following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) announcement after the Presidential Election on February 28th.
