President Buhari Pleads for Forgiveness and Thanks Nigerians in Final Sallah Homage

After a tenure which some classified as torrid while others classify as smooth, the President of Nigeria, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) has only 38 days remaining in his tenure.

President Muhammadu Buhari has, however, humbly appealed to Nigerians whom he may have wronged during his presidency to forgive him. Speaking at the Presidential Villa in Abuja during his final Sallah homage, he expressed his gratitude to the Nigerian people for their patience and support during his eight-year tenure as the nation’s leader. He lauded democracy as the best form of governance and credited it with enabling him to become president after serving as a military Head of State.

Buhari acknowledged the Sallah celebration as a fitting occasion to say goodbye and express his appreciation for the love and tolerance shown to him by Nigerians. He stated that he intentionally arranged to retire to his hometown after serving as a governor, minister, and president twice. He thanked God for the opportunity to serve his country in various capacities and asked for forgiveness from anyone he may have hurt.

The President assured the nation that the May 29 handover date to the next administration would be observed without delay. Earlier that day, he joined other Muslim faithful at the Mambilla Barracks to perform the Eid el-Fitr prayer, accompanied by some of his family members, personnel aides, members of the Federal Executive Council, security chiefs, and government officials.
