Members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, also known as Shi’ites, staged a bold and powerful protest in Abuja to show their support for their leader, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, and his wife, Zeenah.
The couple had been denied travel documents for medical treatment abroad, which the Shi’ites saw as an attempt to kill their leader. During the annual Quds Day procession, which marks solidarity with the Palestinian people’s struggle against Israel’s occupation, the protesters marched through Abuja, starting at the Customs office in Abidjan Street and passing through Wuse Market.
The police however, resisted the march, leading to several injuries, but the Shi’ites remain determined to fight for justice and the rights of their leader and the Palestinian people. They condemned Israel’s occupation of Palestine and expressed their support for the oppressed people of Palestine. The protesters’ message is loud and clear: they will not be silenced or intimidated, and their struggle for justice and freedom will continue until it is achieved.
