Yakubu Maidoya, who ran as the governorship candidate of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) in Nasarawa State, has extended his congratulations to Governor Abdullahi Sule on his successful re-election.

Maidoya also appealed to the governor to exhibit magnanimity in his victory. The congratulatory message came two weeks after the conclusion of the governorship and house of assembly elections on March 18th, 2023. During the elections, Governor Sule secured 347,209 votes, defeating the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who came in second place with 283,016 votes, while Maidoya, the NNPP candidate, trailed in third place with 11,726 votes.

Maidoya spoke on a popular Hausa program known as “Kaka Sara Kaka” on Vision FM, where he expressed his readiness to support the Sule administration, particularly in the area of industrialization. By offering his support, Maidoya implied his willingness to work with Governor Sule, despite being an opposition candidate. His statement also suggests a desire to collaborate and contribute to the progress and development of Nasarawa State.

“As we speak, I have arrangement with a reputable company that is ready to invest in Lafia in which about 15,000 youths will be employed.

“Losing the election will not deter me from contributing my quota towards the socio economic development of Nasarawa State, since I’m a successful business man, and Nasarawa State belongs to all of us.

“I’m proud to say that the election is a success for me, having contested for the first time and to God be the glory, we made history, our party produced two House of Assembly seats,” he said.

“It is sad, very unfortunate that barely a week to the election, some religious leaders were induced financially by some politicians to play politics of religion, a danger that must be checked.”

Meanwhile, Maidoya emphasized the importance of religious leaders being mindful of their actions to safeguard the best interests of the people, which in turn contributes to a peaceful and united Nasarawa State.

Additionally, he expressed his gratitude towards the Emir of Lafia and other traditional rulers for preaching and promoting peace during the election period. Furthermore, he extended his appreciation to the people of the state for their peaceful behavior and support during and after the elections.
