Professor Onje Gye-Wado, a former deputy governor of Nasarawa State, was kidnapped early Friday morning from his residence in Rinza village, Wamba local government area of the state.
The kidnappers reportedly entered the compound through the fence and broke his wife’s window before taking him away. This is not the first time Wado has been targeted; he has survived three previous kidnapping attempts, one of which resulted in the death of one of his cousins. His current whereabouts are unknown.
“The wife came in for easter and they broke into the house through her widow and took her husband away. They called around 4am today Friday and threatened to kill him, without mentioning any amount” the family source said.
Professor Onje Gye-Wado, who was the Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State from 1999 to 2003 under the current National Chairman of the APC, Senator Abdullahi Adamu, has been kidnapped. The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction and has promised to rescue him. The Commissioner of Police, CP Maiyaki Baba, has assured the public that the command is intensifying its search and rescue efforts to ensure the safe return of Professor Onje Gye-Wado.
“Information received by the command indicated that on 7/4/2023 at about 12:30am, unknown gunmen invaded Gwagi village in Wamba LGA, broke into the residence of one Prof. Onje Gye-wado and abducted him to an unknown destination.
“Upon receipt of the information, Police operatives attached to Wamba Division swiftly moved to the scene, but the abductors had fled with the victim before the police arrival”, the police said
The Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramham Nansel, issued a statement stating that the Commissioner has urged individuals with helpful information that can assist in the safe recovery of the kidnapped former Deputy Governor.
