Mesut Ozil, an attacking midfielder renowned for his technical finesse, creative playmaking, exceptional passing abilities, and unparalleled vision, has recently announced his retirement from professional football. Over the course of his career, Ozil has played for several notable clubs such as Real Madrid, Arsenal, Werder Bremen, Schalke 04, and has also won the World Cup with Germany in 2014.
In July 2022, Ozil signed a one-year contract with İstanbul Başakşehir, with an option to extend for another year. However, the playmaker has been plagued by back issues, leading to his limited appearances on the pitch this season. Despite this, he made his debut for İstanbul Başakşehir in August 2022 during a game against Kayserispor, coming on as a substitute for Berkay Özcan and playing for 80 minutes, contributing to the team’s 2-0 victory.
Ozil shared his decision to retire through his social media accounts, marking the end of his successful career as a professional footballer.
