The opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate, Dauda Lawal, has been declared the winner of the Zamfara state governorship election, thereby removing Governor Bello Matawalle from his position.
The Independent National Electoral Commission announced Lawal as the new governor-elect, having received a total of 377,726 votes, while Matawalle of the All Progressives Congress obtained 311,976 votes. Lawal’s victory was announced in the early hours of Tuesday in Gusau, the state capital, by the INEC Returning Officer, Prof. Kassimu Shehu.
The Kebbi Returning Officer said: “I Prof. Kassimu Shehu of the Federal University Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State, certify that I am INEC Returning Officer for Zamfara State.
“That Dr. Lawal Dauda of the PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is declared winner and returned elected.”
