The Niger Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has urged Christians in the state to select only trustworthy candidates in the upcoming governorship and legislative elections on Saturday. CAN’s Media Aide, Daniel Atori, emphasized the importance of electing leaders who prioritize providing quality education and accessible healthcare to the citizens.
“The Candidates and Parties have done their own. It is now our turn to do our own. By now, we should all know the difference between day and night but let it be known that Christians cannot be relegated; we are as important as everyone and our votes must count.
“Vote for the candidate who has shown a sense of belonging to all faith in the State because this is the time to look out for those who have respect for the body of Christ as a show of equity, fairness, partnership and peaceful coexistence in the state.”
The Association stressed that the ideal candidate for the election should exhibit traits of compassion, discipline, and a credible lifestyle. Additionally, the candidate must not be involved with cults, religious extremists, or illicit drugs, and must not have any ties to bandits or thugs.
The organization encouraged voters to evaluate candidates based on their past performance in previous positions, emphasizing that candidates with a proven track record of ensuring internal security, religious impartiality, enforcement of basic rights, and fairness in appointments should be preferred.
