The Court of Appeal in Abuja has granted Bola Tinubu, the President-elect, permission to access the electoral materials used by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the general elections held on February 25, 2022. Tinubu’s legal counsel, Mr. Akintola Makinde, stated that Tinubu needs to inspect, scan, and photocopy certain electoral materials in order to prepare his defense against any petitions that may seek to nullify his election.

In his first ex-parte application filed on March 6, Tinubu cited the Labour Party and its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, as respondents. In his second application, the Peoples Democratic Party and its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, were named alongside INEC. Makinde emphasized that these materials would be essential in helping Tinubu prepare his defense and make comparisons with the information contained in INEC’s back-end server.
