Meta, the company that owns popular social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and others, has announced plans to introduce a subscription fee for account verification on Facebook and Instagram. In a statement released on Sunday, Mark Zuckerberg, the founder of Meta, explained that this move was inspired by a similar initiative recently launched by Twitter’s CEO, Elon Musk.

The new service, called Meta Verified, will first roll out in Australia and New Zealand this week. With Meta Verified, users will have the option to verify their accounts using a government-issued ID, which will earn them a blue badge. Additionally, they will receive added protection against impersonation attempts and direct access to customer support.

In other words, Meta Verified is intended to make it easier for users to protect their accounts and improve their overall experience on Facebook and Instagram. The subscription fee has been pegged at $11.99 and $14.99 for web and IOS users respectively, This is a clear indication that Meta is looking for new ways to generate revenue and diversify its offerings.
