Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retired) and Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele are currently meeting at the State House in Abuja.
They have met twice since Emefiele returned to the country on January 12, 2022 after visiting the United States. Earlier on Thursday, Emefiele was part of a delegation from the Arab Bank for Economic Development led by Dr. Sidi Ould Tah, the director general.
Emefiele is currently facing allegations of corruption, funding for terrorism and recently fled the country. The DSS had requested a court warrant to arrest him, but the request was denied by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Emefiele has been summoned by the court for a hearing on January 18, 2023 regarding a $53 million debt associated with the Paris Club refund. However, he has appealed the decision, claiming it was a legal error and caused a miscarriage of justice. As a result, the court proceedings were postponed until March 20, 2023.
