Doyin Okupe, the previous director general of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, is said to have been detained at Lagos’ Muritala Mohammed International Airport by the Department of State Services.

On Thursday, Tolu Babaleye, one of his attorneys, posted about this on Facebook.

Okupe, according to him, was traveling to London.

He asserted that the DSS required him to give court records detailing his decision to pay a fine after being found guilty of money laundering by the Federal High Court of Abuja.

He was requested to provide proof that the Federal High Court in Abuja had released him from the case in which he was found guilty, fined, and given permission to return home, the source said.

“When will this bullying end? Who is Dr. Okupe’s pursuant? Since the individual has no case to answer as of right now, I hereby demand that the DSS release my client immediately since this violates his right to liberty, freedom of movement, and human dignity. The man’s health is rapidly deteriorating, therefore this is unfair, he said.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission requested Okupe’s arrest, according to Peter Afunanya, a spokesman for the DSS, who confirmed Okupe’s arrest in a statement on Thursday.

He mentioned that Okupe had been given to the EFCC.

Doyin Okupe was detained by the DSS at Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos this morning at the request of the EFCC, according to the statement. He has long since been delivered to the Commission that made the request. Okupe was scheduled to take a Virgin Atlan flight to London.
