The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) reported that one of its teams was shot at by armed men on Awolowo Road in the Ikoyi neighbourhood of Lagos state.
According to the NDLEA spokesman, Femi Babafemi, the incident occurred early Tuesday morning while the team was attempting to intercept a truck carrying cannabis.
Some of the NDLEA agents were injured but it is unclear who was admitted to the hospital. The armed men accompanying the cannabis truck fired on the NDLEA team, but despite their injuries, the team was able to recover the truck and drugs.
The NDLEA team had assistance from military personnel stationed at a nearby hospital, which helped in the recovery. The armed men fled the scene. The NDLEA spokesman also mentioned that this is not the first time NDLEA operatives have been attacked, calling it an unfortunate occurrence.
The Lagos command police public relations officer stated that the incident has not been reported to the police yet.
